Ek Chidiya tourist cottage – set amid terraced fields at village Nathuakhan, 40 km ahead of Nainital, in the Himalayas – is surrounded by reserved pine forests on two sides, and quietude on all. You reach here after you have left behind many things: the last call centre cab fell away seven hours back, the nearest railway station came over two hours ago, the last traffic policeman was stationed 35 km back, and the nearest shop is 2-km up the mountain.

This is a place where the only race for a destination is between birds. At Ek Chidiya, you have all the time in the world – to live. The best thing to do here is to, yes, relax – not in front of the television though. From the comforts of your bed, you will find it hard to take your eyes off the mountains at a distance. Or else, you can curl up with the book you have been, for so long, trying to read in peace. When you step outside, you can either do nothing. And love it.

Ek Chidiya, spread over an acre of land, has a cottage comprising four bedrooms with attached modern bathrooms, and a common dining area. It is surrounded by orchards and fields on all sides. You won’t get to hear the television here, but you can occasionally hear a cow mooing at a distance, or a cricket crooning right outside your window. On local festive occasions, the faded sounds of the dholak come wafting from the village temple, which is located at a half-hour trek from the cottage. The ambience can slowly help you become a resting Kumaoni villager with us.

The cottage has been constructed in the traditional method – with a tin roof, mud-plastered walls and stone floors. Each room has an open sit-out area. The common dining area is where buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner are served. A limited room service menu is also available for the in-between times.

Two separate rooms are available for the maids and drivers accompanying the guests. They will be charged a nominal sum for the stay and food.

At Ek Chidiya, we believe in leading a simple, yet full life. The village ambience has only enriched this thought for us. Now we are taking steps that enable eco-friendly living, but we are still stuck with many issues, and invite your suggestions on how to tackle them.

Ek Chidiya is located in village Nathuakhan, in the fruit bowl of Kumaon in Uttarakhand. 

Go sight-seeing: Visit the neighbouring tourist spots, including Mukteshwar (18 km), Nainital (45 km), Bhimtal (50 km), the paragliding centre at Naukuchiatal (45 km), Almora (40 km), Binsar (60 km), and Jageshwar (80 km). Trips to these places are organized on request.

Booking will be confirmed on advance payment of 100% room tariff.

Cancellation charges:

Cancellation before 15 days: No cancellation charges

Cancellation between 7 to 15 days: 30% of the total cost

Cancellation between 5 to 7 days: 50% of the total cost

Cancellation between 2 to 5 days: 100% of the total cost

Check-out time 12:00 noon

Meal charges for a child aged between 5 and 12 years will be 50% of the amount. Children below 5 years old will be accommodated for free without extra bed.
Special packages will be offered for group bookings.
Maids and drivers will be charged Rs 500 each per day for food and lodging.
We don't accept credit cards or cheques.

Mukteshwar is a town and tourist destination situated at a height of 7500 feet, 51 km from Nainital. On top of Mukteshwar a 350 year old temple of lord Shiva known as Mukteshwar Dham. The famous IVRI campus (Indian Veterinary Research Institute) is also situtated at Mukteshwar. Places of Interest in Mukteshwar includes Chauli ki Jali, where you can enjoy rock climbing and rappelling in a deep valley from where you can get the entire view of kumoun region and fell the presence on top of the world.

Himalayan complete ranges on back side of the Temple, including India’s second highest peak Nanda Devi can be best viewed from here. The sunrise point is at the government-run PWD Guest House is one of the beautiful attraction of Mukteshwar where you can enjoy a cup of tea in cool airy breezes. Your trip to Mukteshwar will be a great experience if you came here in the winter season you certainly find snow in this region.
